ABOUT THIS FIRST VOLUME:

BLACK AQUATIC vol. 1: Searching For Good Trouble

Professional sailor and advocate sailor Marie Rogers talks about the importance of diversity in sailing while reflecting on the challenging 9-day 2023 Transpacific Yacht Race which she skippered from San Pedro, CA, to Honolulu, Hawaii with the first multicultural professional sailing crew of a boat named Good Trouble, forging a path for black women and women of color in the professional sailing realm. Also featured is Kevin Dawson, historian and award winning author of Undercurrents of Power: Aquatic Culture of the African Diaspora, who shares historical information on the sailing aquatic culture of Africans and African Americans, before and during slavery.

Although we've completed our first episode of our film series and are going to festival, we still look for your support. 

 

There are 4 additional episodes or stories to tell surrounding the history of the African Diaspora and its relationship to water.  We plan to feature diving, surfing, swimming and more. It's an exciting conversation that we look forward to sharing with you.
